Ministry at the Medina County Jail

Larry & Sue Jarvis have been chaplains at the Medina County Jail since 1996.  They oversee volunteers from across Medina County in the administration of spiritual care and counseling to inmates at both the county jail and the juvenile detention center. However, if true life-transformation is to take place in among the inmate population, more is needed than spiritual care within the jail. For true "forever" change to occur, a plan for discipleship and rehabilitation needs to be in place once inmates leaves the facility.

That is why Medina Light Ministries was founded.

Medina Light Ministries is a nonprofit organization that is devoted to the proclamation of hope through Jesus Christ and the provision of practical compassionate help for incarcerated men, women, and juveniles, along with their families.  The target populations of this ministry are the Medina County Jail and the Medina County Juvenile Detention Center, although friends and families of those incarcerated may benefit from programs and counseling that is offered.   As inmates leave these facilities to go off to prison or return home, every effort is made to provide continued spiritual, emotional, and physical support for those desiring it.

Formed in 2001 by Larry and Susan Jarvis, this ministry seeks to address the desperate need of the people from Medina County who have very few resources available to them in terms of cultural re-integration into society.  Incarceration has always been a time to reflect and think about one's faults, but never before in Medina County has there been such a willingness to work on rehabilitation than since the opening of the new jail in 1996.

Larry and Susan have developed the following goals:

For the Incarcerated

To proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the hope each and every person needs to establish God-given purpose and power in their lives to begin afresh with new attitudes and behaviors.

To provide instruction in Christian living principles that will carry the person out into the community with a renewed passion for life, a respect for authority,  a commitment to spouse and children, and the knowledge to walk victoriously through the temptations that exist for that person.

For Those on the "Outside"

To create a coalition of supporting churches from which the chaplains and other future fulltime workers may raise financial support for both ministry projects and personal livelihood.

To establish transitional homes for people who earnestly desire a new lifestyle based on Biblical living principles.

To establish a "camp" for juveniles that would give troubled youth a chance to learn a different way of life with the help of Biblical teachers and mentors.
