He Died for Me?
Larry was teaching the men about the need to spread the Gospel. He was explaining that wherever we are, if we have been redeemed through His wonderful grace, we are compelled to tell others about Jesus--teaching them to obey all that God has commanded. Being in prison, Larry teaches, is just being in a different mission field where there are lots of lost souls to reach before eternity beckons.
Some of the men said that they didn't know enough to share. Larry passed out some tracts that we have produced in conjunction with our son's ministry (Absolute Truth) and explained that one way to share with others is to simply give out the news in written form.
One man, Nathan, sat staring at a simple gray and black tract. It was cut like a bookmark and was titled, "A Limited Time Only." Larry's voice blurred away as Nathan read the tract... "Jesus paid the penalty for our sins....Jesus paid the penalty for our sins? ....my sins? .....MY sins .... Jesus paid the penalty for MY sins????"
"Larry," the man interrupted the sermon, "this says that Jesus died for MY sins. That means He went to the cross for me. Is that right?"
"That's right, He died for you, for me, for everyone" Larry assured him. And the lesson of the Good News continued. Nathan sat there stunned, shaking his head. "Man, oh man!.....I never knew He did it for me. I...I don't think I can handle this."
Nathan had been a churchgoer all of his life, yet the realization that God has gone to such extreme heights of sacrificial love to have a personal relationship with us had never dawned on him. Furthermore, the idea that such an intimate, personal, monumental love requires an intimate, personal response was slowly beginning to dawn on him. Now that Nathan knows the price of his salvation...please pray with us that Nathan would internalize that tremendous truth, deny himself, pick up his cross daily and follow the One who died for him!
