It Hurts to Say Goodbye
In Memory of Ramon Rivera
Sometimes you pour your heart out
You dare to
let love in
You let yourself believe in,
what could have, should have
been.
You give a hug, a gentle kiss
And share a song or two
You share
the Lord and pray a prayer
And do everything you can do
There's laughter
and there's good times
Making memories in your mind
And then one day, the
music stops
And you've been left behind
To ponder what you could have
done
To change that final song
And revisit all the memories
And find
the notes where it went wrong
How could it end so out of tune
You can only
wonder, why?
The melody broke inside your heart
How it hurts to say
goodbye
You have to believe in Heaven
That still the music plays
That
Jesus wipes away the tears
And you can hardly count the days,
Until you
get to sing again,
With your son that had to die
You know that God is
holding him
But it still hurts to say goodbye.
- Susan Jarvis
Dedicated to our son in the Lord, Ramon Rivera, who brought our whole family so much joy and so much sorrow. We met Ramon in 2002 and lost him too soon. Ramon lived with us this past spring when he got out of prison. How we wish he had never moved away. We loved him for his irrepressible sense of fun, his unquenchable passion for the Word of God, and because he loved us too. Ramon died of a drug overdose in September, leaving three sweet little children behind. At age 28, he had so much more to give, but his life was cut tragically short as he gave in to an addiction he had struggled with for years. May Jesus hold him and love him better than we could. |
