Stories from the Jail

Quotable Quotes

One inmate went off to serve about 7 years in a federal prison.  His first stop was at the Mahoning County Jail where federals wait for openings around the country.  He wrote back, " Medina County Jail is like a 5 star hotel compared to the horrible place I'm in now!" Now don't misunderstand......our jail is like any other.....no pillows, tasteless food, no privacy, etc. However, he misses Sue who was like a mother, the fun he had going to church and Bible studies and the fellowship in the pods.

On a Thursday night at the juvenile detention center, one young man opened up on the topic of prayer.  "Sometimes I don't feel like anybody's out there.  How can you know for sure?"  It turned out virtually of the the teens were praying, perhaps for the first time ever, as they sit in their private cells.  All had questions and concerns.  It was a lively hour and it went to prove that we are living in a society where you can reach adulthood and never learn about The God of the Bible.

"God must have brought me here because he needed a jail ministry."  Wrote a man from the notorious Mahoning County Jail.  He was upset he had been taken out of Medina and put there, but upon seeing the sorry state of the prisoners, he determined to work for the Lord.  He said he had always wanted to have a prison ministry.  He just always thought he would be free when he started it!

John from a prison in Florida writes, " I am blessed daily by the Great Almighty!!"  He is working with the prison chaplain, ushers for the church and is writing a book.  His wife is sticking by him and he is totally joy-filled.

A man serving 21 years at Grafton who works outdoors in lawn care writes, "I was offered a nice job at the ... office...however, I turned it down...it would have conflicted with my prayer group and Bible study.  Naturally, I have been told that I was a fool for not taking it.  Oh well, then a fool I will be."

How many of us would have turned down a great job promotion just to attend a Bible study and a prayer meeting??
